Improving my blogging frequency is back on the list guys, fear not. I even started putting together some of the This Week collages I missed a while ago, but got overwhelmed and distracted. I will put some up soon though because they go back to something like August...oops. At least I'm active on Facebook and Instagram right?

Anyway drumroll please...today I finished my Taxidermy Elephant!

I am so unbelievably pleased with him! He turned out just like the pattern (which was written by the exceptionally talented Vanessa Mooncie by the way!) and I am really thrilled to finally have him done. It's been a long 6 months! Although for 3-4 of those months it was just sat next to me on the coffee table, while I denied it's existence!

The pattern is beautiful though - I have no idea how anyone could write anything like this. I had a few issues but I think that was more the editing (mine was from a Simply Crochet pull out) than it was the actual pattern writing. He came out fine though, so that's ok! Here's a couple of different angles for y'all...

Honestly, I wasn't sure about the colours at first (I went with the ones listed in the pattern) and had seen some variations on Ravelry, but to be honest they have really grown on me and I think it looks perfect! My favourite parts are the sequinned headdress on top (it was my first time crocheting anything like that, so there is a new skill) and the hanging discs on the sides of the head. You can't really see in the above pictures but they are finished with seed beads right on the bottom.

I'd thoroughly recommend everyone tries this pattern out - although tricky in places, the finished object is amazing. I would make one for myself but I don't think I can put myself through it again...not any time soon anyway (but that is only because I struggle with larger projects and keeping focused!).

I haven't had chance til now to actually post anything (I did mention it on Facebook), so for anyone reading here who doesn't use Facebook, I hope you had the best time!

We had our usual fab time. December as a whole has been really hectic.

I kicked off the month with my Christmas Fayre! I really wish that I had had the time to share more of the prep for this, but I really focused on putting together as much stock as I could, with some variety. It was a fun couple of hours on the day...

I had some help from my lovely friend Fiona, who kindly came early with me and helped me (and others) to set up tables. There was a lot of variety at the fayre, and I'm looking forward to taking part in the summer one, in June! I am already thinking about what I will make!

After the fayre, I had some time off from 8th-16th, which I used to wrap our Christmas presents and finish last preparations. Aside from doing that, I also managed to tick something off my bucket list - I went to War of the Worlds at the BIC in Bournemouth!

Again, I went with Fiona, who was absolutely amazing. My anxiety was acting up an absolute treat, and I really struggled to get through the first half an hour or so. Once I settled down I was fine though and despite feeling anxious, I had the best time. One of the best nights of my life! And I finally got to see Jason Donovan, who did not disappoint! This has been on my list for so long, and when Fiona and I saw that it was coming to Bournemouth, we decided to go. WOTW has found itself a new fan in Fiona as well!

My week off did involve popping into work on the Friday, but only for our annual fish and chip lunch, and Christmas games. It was Save The Children's Christmas Jumper Day as well, so everyone looked fab! We managed to raise £70 for Cash For Kids (who give presents to children who otherwise won't get one at Christmas) and further money, which I am yet to count, for Save The Children. A good day!

There was then the week in the lead up to Christmas. It was surprisingly quiet at work...busy but not how it has felt in previous years, so that was good. It was a shame that Christmas fell where it did this year, because we had to open on the Monday (Christmas Eve), and then obviously got the two days off before going back to work on the Thursday, which made it a pretty disjointed week! This week will be the same though, with New Year.

Christmas Day itself was lovely! I managed to make a really delicious lunch (my best yet, I think). It took a while but it was definitely worth it!

We were both given some really lovely gifts as well. Dave, in particular, gave me some lovely presents - including a War of the Worlds vinyl in a frame (I have wanted to put some vinyl on the walls for ages, of albums that mean something to us both). He also gave me some really scrummy yarn, including two cakes of Scheepjes Whirl, which I am saving for a throw to put in our new kitchen...on the sofa that we haven't found yet! Anyway, we both had a lovely day just the two of us relaxing and getting over lots of hard work in the last few months.

Boxing Day brought family time! We did our usual and started the day at my Grandparents', which is about 45mins drive away from Poole. We spent a little while with them, and then moved on to my parents' in Dorchester, where my Dad decided to cook a BBQ for lunch! I love my family - I don't think many others in the UK would've had BBQ on 26th December!

After a few hours eating and opening presents with my family, we headed out on the last leg of our journey to Dave's parents in Wool where we enjoyed a buffet dinner and more gifts, before heading back home to Poole. A tiring but rewarding day!

I then had to go back to work the next day and finish off the week. I'm working again tomorrow but then get New Years Day off, so it's another disjointed week but will be over quickly I suppose. It's been an amazing Christmas though, and I'm so glad to have spent it with all of my loved ones.

What's next? Hopefully more crochet! I have actually done loads in the time that I haven't been updating here - that's what has kept me distracted! But next year I intend to keep everything a bit more up to date and keep you all in the loop. I'll be working towards the summer fayre, so looking forward to making some new bits for that. Also need to get everything back on the shop again for the New Year. I'll try and do a proper round up of 2018 and set some proper goals, and also reflect, on New Years Day, when I am off. Anyway I hope you all enjoyed that non-crochet related post. I am still very much alive and active, just been crazy distracted!Siânhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01288403110484356518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808284115401166509.post-2920782121132885122018-12-12T08:55:00.002+00:002018-12-12T08:55:51.850+00:00Christmas Gift Wrap 2018Wow...where have the last few months gone? I didn't realise I hadn't posted since August 😳

There has been a lot going on that has been keeping me occupied over recent times. We have had our kitchen extended, I have been trying to come off of my medication, I've been prepping for a Christmas Fayre (which I really wish I had been able to blog about in the lead up!), and more. It's been madness. So I'm sorry I've not been around. I'm hoping to try and catch up with things in the next couple of days if possible - I have a week off work (well, I go back on Monday) so hoping for a little me-time between everything else that's going on.

Today though, I just wanted to share this year's Christmas gift wrapping. I really love it.

The paper is from John Lewis, as well as the gold ribbon and tags. I've gone more simple this year (yes, that's simple for me...take a look at my gift wrapping tag) and just added a cinnamon stick to each gift. They smell really nice!

I had a crisis yesterday afternoon though. I ran out of paper with just a couple of presents left!! This design is sold out on the John Lewis website now, so I am going to the store this morning to see if they have any left there. I really can't handle having presents wrapped in different papers! I'm keeping everything crossed haha!

Anyway, I'm off out on my mission. I will try and update again later today or tomorrow if I get chance (tomorrow is a busy one though, so maybe Friday...) and fill you in properly on what's been going on. Big hugs! xSiânhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01288403110484356518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808284115401166509.post-20382108394600616392018-08-24T10:42:00.003+01:002018-08-24T10:42:29.338+01:00Week 33Christmas prep and bad parking!
It's been a busy couple of weeks in my crochet world. As you all know, I opened my Etsy shop last month, and that's going well. I have also started prep for the Christmas Fayre that I am attending in December. I've been thinking long and hard about what kind of items to take with me, and am hoping I have enough time to get it all sorted! I'm doing well though - at the moment I have one "full size" stocking, 10 miniature stockings to use as tree ornaments, and 2 owls which as also ornaments. They're all so cute!
So when I came across the Confetti Waves Blanket by Jellybean_Junction, I just had to have a go! I made a start last night and am already making excellent progress!

At the moment, I am really trying to reduce my yarn stash (which has grown considerably over the last few years) and this project is PERFECT for it! Pictured are yarns I purchased a couple of years ago to make my African flower dinosaur, and my jellyfish. They've just been sat since then, almost complete balls. Such a waste! So when I downloaded this pattern, I promised myself I would use yarn that I already had. I'm loving how it's turning out so far, and it works up so quickly!

I'm hoping I can have this finished over the next couple of days, then I have to return to working on my taxidermy elephant (I was getting bored with the sections on the back so needed the change). I can't wait to see this project finished though! If you want to make your own Confetti Waves Blanket, you can purchase the pattern here on Etsy.Siânhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01288403110484356518noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808284115401166509.post-28771700323812504112018-08-07T10:18:00.000+01:002018-08-07T10:18:12.444+01:00Pretty Pastel Bunting

Dave's Mum gave me some lovely pastel gradient yarn at the weekend, so I decided to make a little string of bunting from it! The colours came out really nicely, and I think it would look fab in a nursery or little girls bedroom. It measures about 150cm from end to end (including the tying strings). I think it's super cute!

We started out with a little time away camping - we opted to visit Kent, an area where I spent every summer as a child, and Dave had never been (other than the standard school trip to Dover to catch the ferry to France!). We stayed from Sunday to Wednesday on Far Acre Farm in our little tent and had a fab time visiting Leeds Castle and Dover Castle! The weather was super hot...almost too hot, and we both tanned up nicely!

Since getting home, I smashed through the housework and then got some serious me time, which I so badly needed! I have finished 2 books this week, meaning I am now through 10/16 of my Goodreads Challenge, and in a really good position to finish it this year! I have read 3,512 pages since the start of the year, so my page count is looking good as well.
I also managed to start and finish another baby blanket this week! Just a quickie holiday project, but one that I can add to my Etsy shop once my new labels arrive (exciting times!). Just need to give it a wash and block, and it's good to go! It was my first time using Caron Cakes yarn, and I found it a joy - the colours worked up really nicely (which I will show you when it's blocked and looking prettier).
Also on the crochet topic, I released my first paid pattern this week! If you missed the updates on Facebook and Instagram, where have you been? You can find the pattern available to buy here on Etsy - it is also listed on Ravelry if you prefer to use that to purchase patterns! I'm really pleased with how it turned out, and I have already had a couple of sales, which is really promising. It's been good for the self esteem, if nothing else. Definitely more to come though, and I have some exciting ideas lined up to continue with!

Raspberry frozen yoghurt!

Next up, I spent some time with my best friend! We haven't had a day out in ages, so when Kirsty asked if I wanted to go fruit picking, I couldn't resist. I remember spending hours in fields as a child at various Pick Your Own locations, so it was a definite yes! We chose to visit Sopley Farm (which is in the same village as I got married in!) and it was fab. I opted for raspberries, and have turned them into some delicious frozen yoghurt. It's not something I have made before, so I was pleased with the outcome (considering I don't own an ice cream maker). I also got to spend some quality time with Kirsty, so that's what really counts!

In addition to every thing else, there have been BBQs galore, I've been able to spend lots of time with Dave, journalled, worked on another crochet project (taxidermy elephant for a friend!), watched films, listened to music, and recharged. It's been a really awesome week...and I only have a couple more to go until another little chunk of time off. Yay!Siânhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01288403110484356518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808284115401166509.post-52930239543744848032018-07-21T17:33:00.000+01:002018-07-21T17:33:50.482+01:00Sunny Sunday SquareI'm sorry I have been so absent recently - I've been crazy busy, and despite being off this week, we were away for some of it, so I haven't had much chance to update til now.

I would like to share my newest pattern with you all though! It has been nearly 10 years since I last wrote a pattern. I stopped for a number of reasons (confidence being the main one) but decided recently that I would have another go, have a little more faith in myself and take the leap. It's nothing fancy, and perfect for beginners - just a little granny square you could use for all kinds of other projects.

I would like to introduce you to the Sunny Sunday Square, which I wrote a couple of weeks ago...on a Sunday haha! It has been tested by my lovely friend Sam, and seems to work!

At the moment I have it listed for sale in two locations, available to download from Ravelry and Etsy.

I would love to see what you guys all come up with, so if you do decide to give it a go, please upload a picture onto Instagram and use the hashtag #sunnysundaysquare so that I can see! I'm excited to see differently colour combinations and yarn choices (I opted for a cotton DK yarn because it was next to me, and it photographs well!).Siânhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01288403110484356518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808284115401166509.post-3351752479046296402018-07-07T07:42:00.003+01:002018-07-07T07:42:41.927+01:00Week 26Sun, crochet and doodles!
I used the Sweet Unicorn pattern again, and this little lady is for another of my colleague Julie's granddaughters. I hope she likes it! It also means I will have some more money to donate to Julia's House Childrens Hospice!

Next on the hook (from an amigurumi point of view) is going to be a taxidermy elephant head for my friend Liz! It's a pattern that featured in Simply Crochet a few months ago, and I'm excited to give it a try!Siânhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01288403110484356518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3808284115401166509.post-25951150895368108702018-06-29T07:56:00.000+01:002018-06-29T07:56:29.570+01:00My First C2CSorry for not being around lately! I have been so busy at work, and had loads going on in my spare time too. I wanted to share this project a while ago, but I couldn't until I had given it to the person I made it for! And then time ran away with me!

I have always loved the look of Corner2Corner blankets, and as one of the nurses at work was about to have a baby, I thought I'd give it a go and make one for her. I never realised how addictive it would be! I used the Spring Into Summer Blanket pattern by Susan Carlson, which was really well written and had a nice style of border on it, with some Lion Brand Ice Cream Big Scoop yarn, in Tutti Frutti. Sian (the nurse this was for) doesn't know what gender her baby is, so I thought this yarn covered all bases (though it was a little more pink than I'd have liked). I'm thrilled with how it came out though - the yarn is so fun and the colours are lovely and bright. I love anything with a gradient! But the main thing is that Sian really liked it.

I was shocked at how quick this blanket was to make! It was only a week from start to finish and looks really impressive. I'm eager to make another c2c in some different colours and see how they work out!

I decided to take the plunge and participate for the first time, and today my parcel arrived! I was so excited opening it!

My partners are <a class="notranslate" href="https://www.instagram.com/miss_bs_emporium/" style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #003569; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-east-asian: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none; vertical-align: baseline;">@miss_bs_emporium (who I am sending to) and <a class="notranslate" href="https://www.instagram.com/bianscha/" style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #003569; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-stretch: inherit; font-variant-east-asian: inherit; font-variant-numeric: inherit; line-height: inherit; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration-line: none; vertical-align: baseline;">@bianscha (who I have received my parcel from). I've really enjoyed the process of getting to know these two lovely ladies and hunting for items I think that Miss B will enjoy!
I am still assembling my parcel for Miss B - it's nearly done, I am just waiting for one more thing to arrive in the post. Hopefully it comes on Monday! Fingers crossed I can have it sent out by the end of the week! I have really enjoyed the process of shopping for my items though - I think I have made some good choices, but we will see! I posted up a mystery black and white photo of the yarn I have purchased on my Instagram earlier as a little teaser!

Overall, my first Fibreshare experience has been really good fun. I can't wait to send off my parcel and then complete the circle. It's been awesome and I am definitely going to sign up for the next one! Plus, I have gained myself two lovely crochet friends in the process. What more could a girl want!
